Pediatric Residency Rural Scholars Program

The Pediatric Residency Rural Scholars Program was established in 2016 with the goal of increasing the number of practicing pediatricians in rural underserved areas.   

We are pleased to announce our 2026 Rural Health Scholar Interns:

Who is eligible?

Students of the WVU School of Medicine in MS-3 in good academic and professional standing committed to match in the WVU Pediatrics Residency Program in Morgantown and intending to practice pediatrics in WV or other rural areas.

What are the benefits?

  • $10,000 stipend to apply to MS4 tuition

  • Enhanced rural health curriculum in MS4 and throughout residency

  • Guaranteed position in the WVU Pediatrics Residency Program in Morgantown, pending successful completion of medical school

  • Opportunity to experience more electives during fall semester of senior year since time for travel for interviews is not needed

  • Savings on interview travel and accommodation costs; NO NRMP FEES!

  • Peace of mind from knowing you have matched in your number one residency choice at the end of MS3; Scholars participate fully in the MATCH celebration without any of the stress


Application Information

  • Students apply in MS 3
  • Deadline is January 31st
  • Selected students will be notified by March 1
