Academic Programs

The Faculty of the Department of Surgery serves a large population of patients from the central and southern areas of West Virginia. The experience thus provided to residents and medical students is unique, because the volume and variety of surgical pathology treated is huge. The surgical services perform approximately 30,000 procedures a year. Residents also gain experience in all types of endoscopic procedures. The Vascular Center of Excellence is one of the busiest in the country, and their National and International research contribution is second to none. Additional services that contribute to a well-rounded experience include orthopedics, neurosurgery, maxillofacial, plastics, ENT, urology and ob/gyn.
