Guatemala

The Internal Medicine Global Health Guatemala rotation is based out of San Lucas Tolimán on Lake Atitlán and incorporates rural health care, similar to that found in Appalachia, and teaching opportunities in the surrounding 19 communities.

The resident spends time providing hands-on care through mobile clinics to treat patients suffering from conditions ranging from acute infectious diseases to chronic lifelong illnesses. Responsible for keeping track of all patients, the resident catalogs the data to identify the most prevalent health issues in the communities. Each year the resident will lead an educational seminar for the community healthcare workers.

The four-week rotation is joined by fourth-year medical students giving the resident the opportunity to continue mentoring while abroad. We partner with the San Lucas Mission and Friends of San Lucas, a prominent organization improving the welfare of the people in San Lucas and the surrounding areas.
