Primary Care Track

The Primary Care Track is designed for those wanting to incorporate ambulatory general medicine into their future career. All residents in this track can attend a monthly lecture series on primary care topics and attend clinic administration meetings.

Track Timeline

PGY-1

  • Identify residents interested in outpatient primary care
  • Establish mentors
  • Applications accepted starting October of each academic year
  • For chosen residents schedule Continuity Clinic with Primary Care Track Mentors
  • Establish Quality Improvement project with outpatient focus

PGY-2

  • Two half day sessions per week in Medical Group Practice (MGP) clinic with mentor (versus time with mentor at their faculty practice)
  • Five inpatient blocks
  • VA rotation
  • Selective Rotations in four on-month blocks (can be broken down into half month with permission)
    • Concentrates on outpatient experience
  • Elective Rotations in two two-month blocks
    • Any rotation from selective list
    • Any rotation from Internal Medicine Residency elective list
  • QI Project

PGY-3

  • Two half day sessions per week in MGP clinic with mentor
  • Five inpatient blocks
  • Selective Rotations in four on-month blocks (can be broken down into half month with permission)
  • Elective rotations in three one-month blocks
  • QI Project

  • Pain Management Cancer Center
  • Women’s Health
  • Community/Rural Practice

  • Sleep, COPD, asthma, lung cancer
  • Hematology/Oncology Clinic
  • Endocrinology
  • Student Health
  • Bone Mineral
