Hospitalist Track

WVU’s Hospitalist Track was initiated in 2016 and designed for residents interested in beginning or maintaining a career in Hospital Medicine. The purpose of the Hospitalist Track is to provide additional training and experience in topics specific to hospital medicine where students participated both clinically and as part of their curriculum.

Track Timeline

Residents interested in the Hospitalist Track must complete their PGY-1 year before applying and if chosen, they will complete a parallel curriculum during PGY-2 and PGY-3 years that includes a detailed lecture series on hospital medicine topics including quality improvement, system improvement, appropriate documentation/coding, and hospital medicine-specific disease management.

During their residency, residents will complete a two-month hospitalist rotation at Ruby Memorial Hospital with the chance to complete a community hospitalist rotation at another WVU Medicine system hospital. Hospitalist faculty members work closely with residents and guide them as they search and interview for career opportunities.
