Medical Education Track

The Medical Education Track is an opportunity for residents to develop teaching and mentoring skills during their residency. Those interested in academic careers in general medicine, hospitalist, or sub-specialties can enrich their residency experience with teaching opportunities and mentoring.

Track Timeline

Residents apply to the Medical Education Track during the second half of their intern year and, upon acceptance, serve as members of the Resident Curriculum Committee. Throughout their PGY-2 and PGY-3 years, participants engage in additional teaching opportunities with School of Medicine students, including serving as longitudinal mentors through the Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Integration (PDCI) Preceptorship Program and delivering educational lectures to third-year medical students during their Internal Medicine clerkship rotations. Residents also participate in the Resident as Teacher Quick Script Curriculum, a longitudinal initiative designed to develop efficient, high-yield inpatient bedside teaching skills through the creation of concise teaching scripts and practical clinical reference guides for incoming residents. These experiences provide a structured foundation in medical education, mentorship, and educational scholarship while preparing residents for future careers as clinician-educators.

Track Opportunities

  • Serve as a member of the resident curriculum committee
  • Learn effective lecture skills by providing IM clerkship lectures (2-3 times/year)
  • Facilitate small group clinical learning and ethics discussions for MS2 students (winter/spring)
  • Participate in the MS1-MS2 Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Integration (PDCI) Preceptorship Program
  • Participate in forming 1 Resident as Teacher Quick Script per year
  • Serve as a mentor for new interns
