Psychiatry Day Hospital

Objectives
- Assess patients for outpatient day hospital or inpatient psychiatric treatment;
- Work with multidisciplinary treatment teams which include a physician, nurse, therapist, and administrator.
- Become familiar with the various therapies involved in a multidisciplinary approach (medical, individual, group, art, faculty, and experiential).
- Become familiar with both the chronically mentally ill and more acutely ill patient populations.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
Students will participate in the assessment and evaluation of adult patients. Participants will be assigned responsibility for assessing designated patients, developing plans of treatment and execution in accordance with a team approach. Participants will be responsible for appropriate documentation in the form of write-ups and progress notes. Participants will attend daily treatment team meetings and therapy sessions. Students may choose to focus on patients either enrolled in acute care, chronic mental illness, or geriatric programs.
Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria
Daily observation and evaluation of write-ups and progress notes.
