The annual WVU Department of Otolaryngology Alumni Conference was held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place. Our guest speakers were Dr. P. Ashley Wackym, Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at Rutgers University; and Dr. Phillip Purnell, Chief of Laryngology & Professional Voice and Assistant Professor at Rutgers University.
Following the conference, a banquet was held, honoring graduating residents, as well as several resident, faculty, and staff award winners. The graduating residents recognized were John Behnke, MD, Mustafa Bulbul, MD, and Parker Tumlin, MD.
In addition, several residents were recognized with awards for their research and clinical efforts throughout the academic year. The award recipients were as follows:
- Touma Foundation Research Award – Ian Sunyecz, DO
- Sobisca Hall Research Award – Parker Tumlin, MD
- Fortunata Lim Research Award – Mustafa Bulbul, MD
- Stephen J. Wetmore Research Award – Sairisheel Gabbi Reddy, MD
- Pediatric Research Award – Erica McArdle, MD
- Anthony & Carole Oliverio Resident Clinical Achievement Award – Mustafa Bulbul, MD & William Marshall, MD
Chairman Dr. Hassan Ramadan presented the Otolaryngology Chairman’s Award to Matthew Oliverio, MD.
Additionally, Dr. Hassan Ramadan, MD was surprised by the department faculty with a gift recognizing his 35 years of exemplary service to the department, and 10 years as Chairman of the Otolaryngology Department.
The graduating residents also presented the Otolaryngology Teaching Award to Dr. Meghan Turner, MD, and the Otolaryngology Service Award to Residency Program Manager, Rebecca Elmo.
