Physical Literacy Program

Members of CVRP's Physical Literacy Program participate in a group exercise activityCVRP's Physical Literacy Program is intended to address health and wellness needs via physical, mental, and emotional literacy programming, in students with visual impairments from all over West Virginia. Our visually impaired students are often passive participants in many areas of their life, especially their health and wellness. The pandemic has also taken a great toll on our students in regards to their health and overall wellness-thus affecting their role as students and community members.  Actively engaging these students in physical, mental, and emotional literacy education and activities will catapult them towards addressing their overall health and wellness and create active participants within their own lives and throughout their communities. Health and wellness interconnect all areas of one’s life; CVRP believes that addressing these concerns will help to build wellness and overall relationships that promote independence, employability, and a healthy lifestyle.

If we have learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is the need for extensive options for online and virtual services. We have also learned that you can reach more people across a greater area when there is a virtual component to programming. This project will include activities that will be provided virtually in order to reach the participants from all over the state on a regular, weekly, basis. There will also be in-person events held at varied locations throughout the state in order for students, families, and teachers from all over West Virginia to come together. This new pilot project intends to address a need that has previously been overlooked in regard to our visually impaired students in West Virginia. Addressing the need for education in the areas of physical, mental, and emotional literacy will bridge a gap that often stands between a student’s overall wellness and ability to interact in education and community settings.
