Cardiology Subinternship

Objectives

To become acquainted with cardiac disease, its evaluation and therapy.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Students serve as subinterns on general cardiology service and take care of cardiac patient in designated geographical areas which include: CCU, MICU, 3S, 4S, 4W and OR at Memorial Hospital/CAMC. They admit, work-up, and help to treat in-hospital cardiac patients in above-mentioned areas under the supervision of the patient's attending physician. They will learn the advanced therapy of coronary artery disease. They will learn to understand diagnostic tests including ECG, exercise test, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization and coronary angioplasty. Weekly attendance at the cardiology clinic and cardiology conference. During the weekdays, they will have daily teaching rounds with an educational attending, who is a member of the cardiology subsection, or they may also choose to have more personal contact with a single attending cardiologist.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

Students will review literature/journal reviews and present the subject in appropriate meetings.

Pre-Rotation Instructions

WVU Students/Visiting Students: 4th year coordinator will email students one week prior with assignment of team and time to report.  Visiting students will first attend an Orientation before starting; you will receive an email one week prior with detailed Orientation information.
