Pediatric Intensive Care
LOCATION: Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, West Virginia
PRECEPTOR: Manuel Caceres, MD
DURATION: 2 to 4 weeks
MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT: 1 student
STATUS: This rotation fulfills the senior year requirement for Critical Care.
- Develop the ability to make an appropriate evaluation of the critically ill child;
- To understand the therapeutic decision-making process;
- To learn some of the basic PICU skills, as well as prepare a talk, research paper or formal conference during the rotation;
- Learn the basic pathophysiology of critical illness and treatment.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
The student will learn by participation in the evaluation and management process, by participation in procedures performed in the PICU, and by one-on-one teaching by the attending staff of the PICU.
