Newborn Intensive Care
LOCATION: WVU Children's Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia

STATUS: This rotation fulfills the senior year requirement for Acute Care
Objectives
Introduction to the principles of diagnosis and care of the critically ill neonate; To become familiar with newborn ventilatory therapy, post-operative care of the neonate with cardiac or gastrointestinal anomalies, and general supportive care of sick newborns.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
Participation in the daily newborn intensive care unit work, and attending rounds. Participation in care of the critically ill neonate under supervision of pediatric residents, neonatal nurse practitioners, and the attending staff. Selected neonatal transport experience (optional).
Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria
Daily observation.
