Pediatric Neurology

LOCATION: WVU Children's Hospital and Physician Office Center (POC), Morgantown, West Virginia

STATUS: Elective

Objectives

To become familiar with the common problems seen in pediatric neurology including seizures, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, intellectual disability, autism, learning disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. Students who have special interests in these areas can arrange to spend increased portions of their rotation in those areas.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

The students will make rounds and attend clinics with attending physician and the residents. They will be allowed to work-up new patients in the clinic, the consultation service and patients in the hospital. They will also prepare and attend conferences appropriate for the pediatric neurology rotation.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

The students are evaluated on the basis of:

  1. Their participation in discussions on rounds and in the clinic;
  2. Their ability to accept responsibility for the evaluations and management of patients in the clinic and hospital setting;
  3. Their participation in pediatric neurology conferences.
