The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is now accepting applications for its Minority Summer Fellowship Award though February 15th, 2019. MS4 Class of 2019

E*VALUE UPDATES Please be sure you have entered your case log reports for all required rotations. Required rotations include Critical Care (MICU, NICU, PICU, SICU), Hospital Care Sub-I (FMED, MED, PEDS, SURG), and Anesthesiology. To ensure you have entered the correct logs, review the rotation syllabus in SOLE and pull a Procedure Summary report in E*Value. On the E*Value Homepage, you will see several items to help you accomplish this task: (1) a tutorial link on your E*Value homepage titled “E-Value Tutorial Videos” that will help you pull data, and (2) individual links to the required rotation syllabi case logs.

WELLNESS AND GLOBAL HEALTH elective Jan 7-20, 2019. This elective will have several days of health and wellness education follow by a 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador visiting hospitals, orphanages, and schools. For more information, email Dr. Lorenzetti. Cost will be around $2000 ($700 for flight and $1350 for room/board/transportation).

ELECTIVE – Preparing for Intern Year offered at the Morgantown campus. Sessions run from Feb 18-March 1 or March 4-March 15th. See attached Flier for details.

MS3 Class of 2020

EVALS DUE End of Clerkship Evaluations (all campuses) will be due by Friday, December 21st.

WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE We wanted to make sure you are aware of a unique MSIV elective for the World Scout Jamboree between July 20-Aug 2, 2019 in southern WV. WVU is looking for medical students who will be MSIV on July 20 to serve as supervised medical providers.  This is an MSIV elective for 2 credits. A $150 stipend will be provided. Sign-up via SOLE.  Contact Christina with any questions.

PEDIATRIC RESIDENCY RURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM is a great opportunity for the future Pediatricians in the Class who want to make a major positive impact in the lives of the children of WV and beyond.  Please view the attached announcement about our Program, and you will be impressed with the outstanding benefits for you.  Do not hesitate to contact Dr. Nield or Dr. Nease with your questions.

MS2 Class of 2021

MS2 CLG Peer Evaluations will be scheduled on Monday, December 10th. Peer evaluations must be completed by Friday, December 21st. For more information, look for an email from Anna Lama about how to complete peer evaluations. Course evaluations for PDCI II and BS&P will be due by December 21st.

MANDATORY MEETING: Professional & Career Development 2.5 – Getting to M3 will be held on Friday, January 11 from 1-4pm in 1905. You will be fitted for your White Coat, learn about the M3 Curriculum, discuss scheduling 3rd year blocks and more.

WHITE COAT CEREMONY - Saturday, March 23 @ 2pm at the Waterfront Place Hotel. More details to come!

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room.  Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity.  Contact Debbie Maiorano at 540-535-5145 or deborahmm@aol.com if interested in volunteering.

End-of-Semester Preparations – Please be sure you have logged all required procedures in E-value PRIOR TO final exam dates.  All H&P’s must be graded and turned in to your file in Student Services.  Clerkship directors will be reviewing evaluations, case logs, and H&P’s for final narratives.  If you need assistance obtaining graded H&P’s, contact Michelle Alder (alderm@wvumedicine.org).

Smiles for Life – MUST be completed for your specific Fall clerkships prior to exams.  Please make sure you have printed the completion certificates and placed them in your H&P file at Eastern Student Services so clerkship directors can verify you have met this curriculum requirement.
