IMPORTANT INFORMATIONThe Fall 2018 Student Health Insurance Waiver is available now. The deadline for completion is August 1.  Questions?  Student Insurance Office. 304-293-6815.   EVERY STUDENT is automatically enrolled in the University Insurance plan and assessed in the Fall tuition UNLESS a waiver has been submitted by the deadline and approved. 

MED ED DAY AT THE BALLPARK! Save the Date – Sunday, August 5th help us welcome the newest class of Med students as we gather to cheer on the WV Black Bears at 4pm. More details to come! 

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH!  Mark your calendars now!  The Gold Humanism Honorary Society will again host this year’s Back to School Bash!  Friday, August 17, St. Mary’s Pavilion in Star City, 5-7 pm.  ALL STUDENTS…. ALL CAMPUSES… invited.

What’s Happening – Morgantown

 MS4 Class of 2019

GTR 2.0. Check your email for details into your MSPE meeting with either Dr. Cottrell or Dr. Ferrari. You have been assigned one of the Dean’s to meet with to discuss your career path and begin to develop your MSPE for residency applications. Log into SOLE – MS4 Information Page and find the Sign up List for your assigned Dean. You will need to send a copy of your updated CV and personal statement to your assigned Dean at least 7 days prior to your selected appointment. You will bring your GTR 1-on-1 Form (Found on the MS4 Information Page) to your appointment. 

ERAS TOKENS have been sent to you! Check your email for updates. Remember your application is not due on ERAS until September. 

MS3 Class of 2020

M3 BOOTCAMP: The week of June 25th for Morgantown campus. Check your email for an outline of the week’s events. Contact Amy with questions or dietary considerations.

AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars Program is a new program offered to all graduate health professions students in the state of WV with at least 2 years remaining in their program. If you’re interested in in gaining experience in rural/underserved areas of West Virginia you’ll find more information on the attached fact sheet and visiting their website. Questions, contact Jessica Stidham, Program Coordinator. 

STUDENT STIPEND AVAILABLE Interested in a $75 per day stipend for working on a community health project with a community mentor during your required 4-week rural Family Medicine Clerkship rotation or 4-week Rural Track Internal Medicine rural rotation? That’s $1500 for the 4-week rotation! If you have a rotation scheduled or requested in one of these counties: Boone, Calhoun, Fayette, Lincoln, McDowell/Wyoming, Mercer, Mingo, Pocahontas or Roane, during Block 1, 2 or 3, then check out this program: Community and Rural Rotation Support – CARRS

PEDS Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC.  Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC.  If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Volunteer Speaking Opportunity – Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session.  Meetings held 6:30-8:30pm on second Thursday of each month, 2nd floor of Dorothy McCormack Building.  Contact Dr. Paul Kradel, 304-267-2520, if interested. 

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu). 

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations.
