CONSTITUTION DAY COMPETITION! Want to make $50? In 2004, former WV Senator Robert C. Byrd pushed for Congress to establish Constitution Day and require publicly funded schools to provide educational programs to help students better understand the Constitution. Dr. Ferrari is offering $50 to the first student to read the Constitution Day Modules AND receive a 100% on the Exam. The Exam will open at 12 am on Constitution Day. You will have two attempts. The modules are located on the Constitution Day SOLE site and the Exam can be found under Assessments. Or, type “Constitution” into the SOLE search bar. Good luck!

VOLUNTEERS needed for charity 5k – Runnin’ for Research on September 29, which raises money for headache and migraine research. If interested contact the Department of Neurology Chair, Dr. David Watson or Eric Emery.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:  Earn approx. 2-3 hours Community Service by participating in an educational research study that targets HIV patient education.  Please contact Carolyn Kidd for information on how to participate.

As a reminder, students may begin applying to ACGME-accredited residency programs on September 5 at 9 a.m. ET. Programs are given access to applications and supporting documents on September 15, 2018 at 9 a.m. ET. All applications submitted September 5-15 will be date-stamped “September 15, 2018” for programs. 

RSVP for GTR 3, Interviewing Skills, will be offered in 2 sessions. You may choose to attend either October 10th or October 22nd. Email Amy if interested in attending. 

DECEMBER GRADUATES MD Ceremony will be held Saturday, December 15 @ 10:00am at the Coliseum. The graduation application portal is now open! You MUST apply for graduation via STAR or DegreeWorks. Contact Amy to let Student Services know about your plans for participation in the ceremony and if you have any questions.

SAVE THE DATE. Getting to Residency 0.5 will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:00pm in 1901. This is your first GTR with an introduction to the match process and course scheduling for spring.

MS2 volunteers needed to help with a gross anatomy lab which is coordinated by Dr.Klinkhachorn and myself for the undergraduate students in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).  The structure of the lab is based on stations highlighting the anatomy of the head, neck, and torso. You will earn community service hours for your time, and Dr. Klinkhachorn can advise you as to the amount of time you can count for this lab experience. The current proposed date for this lab is MONDAY, November 5th from 1:00pm-2:00pm. If you are interested in helping, please contact Dr. Meigh, kmmeigh@mail.wvu.edu

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Volunteer Speaking Opportunity – Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session.  Meetings held 6:30-8:30pm on second Thursday of each month, 2nd floor of Dorothy McCormack Building.  Contact Dr. Paul Kradel, 304-267-2520, if interested. 

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu). 

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations.
