COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:  Earn approx. 2-3 hours Community Service by participating in an educational research study that targets HIV patient education.  Please contact Carolyn Kidd for information on how to participate.

MS4 Class of 2019

RSVP for GTR 3, Interviewing Skills, will be offered in 2 sessions. You may choose to attend either October 10th or October 22nd. Email Amy if interested in attending.

WELLNESS AND GLOBAL HEALTH elective Jan 7-20, 2019. This elective will have several days of health and wellness education follow by a 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador visiting hospitals, orphanages, and schools. For more information, email Dr. Lorenzetti. Cost will be around $2000 ($700 for flight and $1350 for room/board/transportation).

DECEMBER GRADUATES MD Ceremony will be held Saturday, December 15 @ 10:00am at the Coliseum. The graduation application portal is now open! You MUST apply for graduation via STAR or DegreeWorks. Contact Amy to let Student Services know about your plans for participation in the ceremony and if you have any questions.

SAVE THE DATE. Getting to Residency 0.5 will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:00pm in 1901. This is your first GTR with an introduction to the match process and course scheduling for spring.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE Interested in Emergency Medicine and/or medical education?  If so, please consider participating in an EM educational research project, which can also be counted for community service experience.  Contact Amy summers at if interested. 

MS2 VOLUNTEERS needed to help with a gross anatomy lab which is coordinated by Dr.Klinkhachorn and myself for the undergraduate students in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).  The structure of the lab is based on stations highlighting the anatomy of the head, neck, and torso. You will earn community service hours for your time, and Dr. Klinkhachorn can advise you as to the amount of time you can count for this lab experience. The current proposed date for this lab is MONDAY, November 5th from 1:00pm-2:00pm. If you are interested in helping, please contact Dr. Meigh, kmmeigh@mail.wvu.edu

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunity with Project REACH (Rural Education Alliance for Community Health) at Capon Bridge Founder’s Day Festival (http://www.cometohampshire.com/event/8th-annual-capon-bridge-founders-day/) in Capon Bridge, WV.  Sept. 29th, 9:30am-mid-afternoon.  2-hour shifts available at tent engaging visitors on topics of nutrition, serving sizes, and food choices.  Practice clinical skills: blood pressure screening and motivational interviewing.  For more info or to volunteer, contact MS3 Daniel Franey (dgf0008@mix.wvu.edu).

 Volunteers Needed to assist with the 10th annual Freedom’s Run event, scheduled for Sat., Oct. 6th.  Event includes Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K Trail Run, and Kids’ Run.  If interested in volunteering, contact Dr. Mark Cucuzzella (cucuzzellam@wvumedicine.org) or sign up through the website (http://freedomsrun.org/Volunteer.aspx).

Volunteer Speaking Opportunity – Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session.  Meetings held 6:30-8:30pm on second Thursday of each month, 2nd floor of Dorothy McCormack Building.  Contact Dr. Paul Kradel, 304-267-2520, if interested. 

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu). 

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations.
