Pediatric Developmental Behavior
LOCATION: CAMC Women and Children's Hospital -Charleston, West Virginia
PRECEPTOR: Pediatric Faculty
DURATION: 2 or 4 weeks

STATUS: Elective
Objectives
Understand normal and abnormal child behavior and development, including cognitive, language, motor, social, and emotional components. Demonstrate knowledge of available resources to manage common developmental/behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Develop skills in effectively interviewing parents and children about developmental and behavioral issues. Demonstrate knowledge of presenting complaints, history of illness, and family history significant for the differential diagnosis of common pediatric developmental/behavioral problems
Methods to Achieve Objectives
Daily observations with the student with immediate feedback Daily observations of patient interactions, participation in case discussions
Students will rotate in the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics clinic, seeing patients with a variety of developmental and behavioral concerns, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disorders, developmental delays, and disruptive behavior.
Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria
Daily observation. Direct contact with patients One-on-one teaching sessions Reading materials, including books and articles.
Pre-Rotation Instructions
WVU/Visiting Students – Please report to Pediatric Sub-Specialty office at 8:30 AM CAMC Womens and Children’s first floor. (Visiting students must attend an Orientation before beginning rotations at CAMC; you will receive detailed Orientation information one week prior to your start date)
