Pediatric Subinternship

LOCATION:  CAMC Women and Children's Hospital -Charleston, West Virginia
PRECEPTOR: Department of Pediatrics Faculty
DURATION:  4 weeks for Sub I
OFFERED: Continuously
MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT: 2 students
STATUS: This rotation fulfills the senior year requirement for subinternship.

Objectives

  1. To be able to identify the high-risk neonate and become effective in delivery room management of such a patient.
  2. To better understand the pathophysiology involved in disease process encountered in the neonate.
  3. To understand the basic treatment modalities used in the treatment of the ill neonate.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

These objectives will be reached by active participation in the work-up and management of the ill neonate. Participation will include daily attending rounds, attendance at all teaching conferences, and the preparation of an in-depth study and report on a topic in neonatology.

Pre-Rotation Instructions

WVU Students/Visiting Students: The 4th year coordinator will email students one week prior with assignment.  Visiting students will first attend an Orientation before starting; you will receive an email one week prior with detailed Orientation information.
