What does a typical day in the life of a anesthesiologist include?

Getting up early setting up OR, reviewing patients in the PICU, Seeing todays patient doing an H an P update . Inducing the patient, placing lines, managing patient intra-op, Transporting patient to PICU, transferring care ,going to clinic seeing patient for next day.

What is the biggest challenge of being a anesthesiologist?

I am the only pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist in the state. I have a lot to do to keep the pediatric cardiac program going for the children of our state.

How do you foresee Anesthesiology changing over the next 20 years?

More time in the cath lab less in the OR.

What advice would you give a student who is considering an Anesthesiology residency?

Make sure that you a position in anesthesia that will be significantly different from the CRNA.
